Women in Design Week: Design workshops

In conjunction with International Women’s Day 2023, LASALLE's Faculty of Design presents Women in Design Week 2023 – Voices for a Creative Future, from 13 to 17 March 2023.

The objective of the workshops during this week is to celebrating women in design in pictures and words.

The percentage of women working and studying in design or in the creative fields has risen in the last few years. However, as many would agree, women are still not as well represented in some discipline areas. The initiative hopes to give voice to the current design/creative leaders and support young female creatives to be more prominent and visible in whatever areas they pursue.

Handbuilding clay workshop: Finding identity in clay | Register
Moderated by Nora (Nurfatin Jumari), featuring Jodie Monteiro of Ferticlay

In this workshop, participants will be taught traditional pottery techniques to make their very own personalised pot from Ferticlay. Following which, they will decorate it according to some reference to a woman in their lives that they wish to honour, create shapes or patterns that a specific female designer is known to use, or they can reference to themselves.

The participants will be encouraged to interact with one another by forming words with their individual printed alphabets. Depending on time allowance and participants’ level of artistic knowledge, simple ornament inspired by individual’s chosen alphabet can be created.
