Root_Re:Route is a work-in-progress show presented by BA(Hons) Fine Arts Level 3 students. Marking the halfway point of the final semester before graduation, the show encapsulates the gnawing sense of artistic practices veering into elevated terrains and grounds its directive in the dialectical relationship between the students’ ‘roots’ and the new trajectories that came after ‘reroute’.

The routes taken have shifted in tandem with the students’ practices and broadened perspectives. In this retrospective juncture, they find themselves in the process of personal growth in the midst of an increasing unfamiliarity with new aspects of themselves. This beckons them to question the role of each individual within their art as well as the role of their art in the bigger field of history. As distinctive as each artist and their disciplines are, they all share the same collective creative space. From this perspective, all artistic acts are but a reprise of earlier acts in time, the works showcased are thus points of entry into the multitudes of such reprises.

Root_Re:Route marks the ending of the old and the beginning of the new, signaling change and return. As the final year students look around to see how much they’ve travelled, there is a realisation that it is a circle they have been tracing instead of a faraway line.
