Lecture / TalkThis is a presentation about social activation and participatory arts as public art forms. Through collective artistry there emerges a sense of social enterprise that makes art happen out in the open and in relation to societal contexts and the experiences of participants. By viewing images of artists engaging with both social and physical environments, themes such as hospitality, goodwill, empathy, and active citizenship will be explored, as well as art therapy’s relationship to visual culture. This presentation aims to extend art therapy’s repertoire adding to its expertise the significance of reaching out to others within day to day life, and composing spaces of communication where art becomes an encounter with the human condition.
