New Meanings presents painting, sculpture, video and installation by Diploma, BA(Hons) and MA graduates alongside works by alumni from the McNally School of Fine Arts.

The exhibition explores the diverse meanings conveyed in artworks. As part of their education at LASALLE, students experiment with materials, scale and processes. They are also trained to critically address ideas through engagement with living artists, aesthetics, philosophy and cultural history. Many of the concepts expressed in these works—scientific approaches to nature, issues of language, urban living—reflect students’ and alumni’s interests in the physical and cultural landscape of Singapore.

Graduates from the McNally School of Fine Arts have received national and international awards, including the Cultural Medallion Award, the Young Artist Award, President’s Young Talents and the Takifuji Art Award. Alumni have been invited to participate in international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art, APB Foundation Signature Art Prize, documenta and the Singapore Biennale.
