Guest Of Honour: Minister For Culture, Community And Youth, Grace Fu
747 graduates received their Diploma, BA(Hons) and MA certificates today, across LASALLE’s comprehensive range of 31 programmes from fine arts to design, film, animation, fashion, dance, music, theatre, arts management, art therapy, Asian art histories and more....
Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, graced the event as Guest of Honour. Here's an excerpt of her speech:
“…we have witnessed the flourishing of many new art platforms, from the first Singapore Biennale in 2006 to the re-launched Singapore International Festival of Arts in 2014. In just a few months’ time, the National Gallery Singapore will open its doors. With over 8,000 artworks, it will house the world’s largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian art.
It is no accident that the arts scene here is vibrant and booming. Government funding for the arts and cultural sector increased significantly to more than $600 million. More and more Singaporeans are embracing arts and culture as an integral part of their lifestyles, with visitorship to national museums and heritage institutions exceeding three million.
This is the landscape you are stepping into, upon your graduation. You are well-placed to seize the many opportunities that are opening up in Singapore’s arts and cultural sectors. Many LASALLians before you have gone on to shape Singapore’s arts scene.”
