Technical Officer (Music) —
2-Year Contract

Technical Officers in the College provide technical support for teaching and learning primarily by inducting and guiding students and other approved users within/across programmes and Faculties in the appropriate and safe use of equipment/materials/facilities, which are within their technical knowledge. Technical Officers are required to develop and update, in consultation with the Head of School, Dean, relevant Programme Leader(s) and the Director of Facilities, the SOPs on the appropriate and safe use of equipment, materials and facilities to support teaching and learning.

As Technical Officer (Music), you will primarily provide technical and operational support for teaching and learning in all music programmes in the School of Contemporary Music. Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Take responsibility for all music instruments and music/sound equipment in the Faculty of Performing Arts.
  • Be the custodian of music/sound equipment/instruments and to ensure that all equipment are securely stored, well-maintained and inventory listings updated.
  • Implement management systems for booking and returns of music equipment.
  • Undertake procurement and repair of instruments/sound equipment, and replacement of consumables (including sourcing and obtaining quotes and liaising with contractors and external vendors).
  • Track and monitor booking of practice rooms, ensemble rooms and other spaces required by Music students.
  • Provide technical and logistics support for music performances, concerts and College events, in particular support the weekly Lunchtime Music Concerts.
  • Assist the School to coordinate concert and performance activities, including liaison with the production manager, and with external professional production personnel and musicians.
  • Assist the School with the documentation (video/photography) of music concerts, and coordinate the documentation of assessments.
  • Provide technical and operational support for Faculty/College events and exhibitions, as and when required, both within and outside of campus.
  • Ensure all teaching staff and students follow health and safety procedures during rehearsals and performances.
  • Expected to work staggered work hours when required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Music or Sound Production or other relevant field with 2 years and above of work experience in the music industry.
  • Diploma holder with 5 years of relevant experience may apply.
  • Good knowledge of musical instruments/equipment, PA and amplification.
  • Familiar with maintenance of musical instruments/equipment.
  • Broad technical skills in the areas relating to music technology and music performances.
  • Good organisational skills and able to multitask effectively.
  • Good interpersonal, spoken and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team and collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Good customer service skills and able to embrace a student-centric service culture.
  • Possess valid occupational first aid certificate. 
  • Good knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health Act and other work-related regulations or legislations.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures on procurement and budgeting.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint and other appropriate software.
  • Familiar in operating Mac platforms.
