The Faculty of Performing Arts is a leader in contemporary performance practice and interdisciplinary research in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The Faculty has two modern conservatoire-style Schools: The School of Contemporary Music and the School of Dance & Theatre offering Diploma and BA (Hons) programmes in Music (popular, jazz, contemporary classical and electronic music), Audio Production, Performance, Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Production and Management.
The Faculty utilises three purpose-built theatres (a 500-seat proscenium theatre and two flexible black box venues), music recording and practice studios. The College is investing in a brand new 300-seat purpose-built Recital Hall for contemporary music, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, which will open in 2024.
The College is seeking to appoint an inspiring and forward-looking Dean for its Faculty of Performing Arts. This is a key management position reporting to the Provost, and an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to lead an ambitious, highly energetic, and high-quality staff team.
You will lead and work with your Heads of Schools/Faculty members to continuously explore innovative and creative modes of delivery of teaching and learning in a blended learning environment and ensure a progressive environment of academic and artistic excellence. You will work with the Heads of School to develop an inspiring vision for the future that positions the Faculty globally and ensure that students acquire advanced and future ready skills appropriate to the changing theatre and music scenes in Singapore and internationally.
You will build a robust research culture, and nurture and mentor your academic staff to become experts in their disciplines. Responsible for managing the overall performance of the Faculty, you will lead a team comprising Heads, Programme Leaders, full-time and part-time academic staff as well as administrative and technical teams managing theatres and studios.
Working alongside other Deans, you will foster a culture of collaboration and interdisciplinarity between the three Faculties and eight Schools to enable new creative practices to be explored and developed across the College. As the lead performing arts advocate for the College, you will build partnerships and opportunities across Asia and globally to further student exchanges and other learning and research opportunities, and attract the highest quality students to study at LASALLE.
- PhD or equivalent in one of the subject areas of the Faculty.
- At least 15 years of professional and tertiary level teaching and management experience as a leader of a School/Faculty or conservatoire.
- Distinguished track record of research and/or practice.
- Excellent understanding of academic quality assurance within arts higher education.
- Strong ability to work successfully within a multicultural, diverse and interdisciplinarity context.
- Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent networks in performing arts, both in Asia and globally.
- Strong ability to nurture and mentor staff and students.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communications skills.
