Lam Fung is an Austrian academic-artist. He grew up in Hong Kong and graduated from two prestigious art academies in China and Austria on scholarships. He is the founder of the contemporary group, Ink Forum and holds a visiting professorship at Shanghai Normal University and is a Distinguished Professor at the China Academy of Art.
Prior to joining LASALLE, he taught fine arts and digital media at different levels of diploma, undergraduate and supervisory postgraduate programmes in Austria, Australia, China, Singapore and the US.
Lam Fung has been an adjunct lecturer with LASALLE’s BA (Hons) programme since 2019, with an interdisciplinary studio practice that spans painting, printmaking, performance and new media/sculptural installation, as well as management and organisational portfolio across both public and private sectors.
His work explores the possibilities of extended material and space practices and the integration of media techniques. His research areas include synthetic media, web art, interactive design, installation and public art. He is the founder of artist colony Atelier Schule 47 and co-founder of INCO, a non-profit interdisciplinary research organisation based in Austria.
His works have been collected by Albertina Museum Austria, National Art Collection Austria, Pacific Bell Network, USA and Finanzgruppe, Germany. His works have also been represented in important exhibitions at Vienna Academy Gallery Austria, Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Wien Palais Liechtenstein Vienna, Swatch Art Peace Hotel Shanghai, Fung Ping Shan Museum Hong Kong, Zhejiang Art Museum Hangzhou, China.
Lam Fung draws his aesthetic approach to art from transcontinental experiences and finds inspiration from history, memories, current events, myths and rituals. His artwork surrounds topics in power, spirit resonance, migration and environmental ethics through direct cross-culture observations and contemporary events.
An impressive span of three decades of his academic and artistic journey has taken Lam Fung through different countries, cultures and philosophies. This has enabled Lam Fung’s artistic approach to possess a valuable international perspective.
