Interior design is the creation of human environments, within and around existing spaces and structures. As a profession, it covers the design and planning of an immense range of spaces, from private homes to commercial and public places, all while holding as a key objective heightened user experiences.

The programme aims to ally students with the critical knowledge and skills necessary to conceive various kinds of environments, with the onus on the design process and thinking.

The curriculum adopts a broad-based interdisciplinary approach, combining practice-based learning with the delivery of core discipline skills: students will gain a keen understanding of design history and contemporary theory, on top of technical knowledge and the latest in computer-aided drawing and visualization techniques.

By looking to the conceptual and challenging conventions, students are encouraged to arrive at original solutions, creating spaces as dynamic and independent thinkers armed with a sense of social and cultural responsibility. Ultimately, the programme hopes to exist as an independent setting for learning, teaching, experimenting and critical discourse on contemporary spatial design.

Level One grounds students in basic methods of design that is centered around a specialised Studio Practice module. Students will be trained to work competently within the parameters of design briefs and produce designs informed by research and analysis. At Level Two, a greater emphasis is placed on honing critical and analytical skills. It aims to extend students’ ability and understanding in the context of professional practice and includes the possibility of an industry-based experience. The course culminates at Level Three, with students undertaking self-directed briefs and engaging in complex real-world concerns. Students will translate their skills into increasingly conceptual terms and demonstrate an understanding of the social, economic and cultural forces affecting spatial design.
