As part of his duties as Visiting Professor for Fashion at LASALLE College of the Arts, designer Mark Eley will be at the college conducting masterclasses and talks to Fashion programmes across all levels. [a list of the Fashion programmes offered at LASALLE can be found below.]
Mark Eley brings with him, his knowledge in Fashion, in particular printed textile design to LASALLE’s fashion students as he interacts with them through a series of tutorials, talks, student consultations and one on one feedback sessions.
Described by London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts as “London’s Hottest Fashion House”, Mark Eley along with his founding partner, Wakako Kishimoto have won acclaim for fusing Eastern and Western aesthetics and techniques in fashion design and printed textiles. Mark Eley has been integral to the success of their label, having hosted annual fashion shows in both Paris and London. Apart from designing clothes for the Eley Kishimoto label, his work has been displayed on the catwalks of Louis Vutton, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Versace, and Jill Sander. Other clients include Motorola, Smirnoff, Shiseido, Converse and Wrap Records. The London based design duo are best known for pioneering the combination of print and fashion into their final products and have become one of the worlds leading contemporary fashion brands. They are best known in the fashion industry for their edgy, contemporary and quirky printed textile designs and clothing.

FASHION COMMUNICATION
The Fashion Communication programme focuses on fashion journalism and the study and creation of the fashion image as seen in advertising campaigns, editorial magazines and print. Students will learn how fashion journalists influence, debate and support the evolution of fashion. They will examine and develop writing skills appropriate to the different styles of fashion communication. Students will be introduced to the creation of fashion images from concept to presentation. They will gain knowledge of styling, photography, digital design techniques and the principles of graphic design and advertising to support their project realisation.

FASHION DESIGN
The Fashion Design programme aims to develop in its students an innovative and contemporary approach to fashion design. Workshops with international visiting practitioners, group critiques, teamwork and one to one tutorials equip students with the skills and knowledge to operate as creative designers and leaders within the fashion industry. Students will experiment with inventive design methods and garment construction techniques to realise their fashion concepts. Industry linked projects will prepare fashion students for the newly expanding creative industry and market of South East Asia.

FASHION MANAGEMENT
The Fashion Management programme provides a thorough understanding of fashion supply Chain management, from consumer demand to marketing sales and customer service, to build conscious decision makers. Throughout their studies, students are equipped with necessary skills in collection planning, sourcing, production planning, manufacturing control, trend analysis, brand development, visual merchandising, budgeting, teamwork and leadership, as well as with essential knowledge of basic accounting, financial analysis and law, and how to liaison with the different and various actors of the fashion supply chain, locally and internationally. Industry linked projects will introduce fashion management students to the expanding industry and market of South East Asia.

FASHION TEXTILES
The continued success of design houses such as Eley Kishimoto, Basso and Brooke and Jonathan Saunders highlights the importance of textile-led design in contemporary fashion. The Fashion Textiles programme seeks to promote the creation of textiles for fashion in South East Asia. An emphasis on experimentation through drawing, design and process encourages the development of creative contemporary textiles. Pattern drafting and garment construction, as well as visualisation and presentation skills, provide students with a solid grounding for their textile designs. Secondary research and Contemporary and Contextual Studies give students knowledge of the contemporary market and how their work is placed within it. Techniques such as embellishment, fabric manipulation and traditional or advanced digital printing methods support the development process and realisation of innovative fashion fabrics.
