LASALLE film graduate Boo Junfeng to present his film at 59th Berlin International Film Festival

Wednesday, 28 January 2009

LASALLE film graduate Boo Junfeng has been invited to present his film Tanjong Rhu at the 59 Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin (59th Berlin International Film Festival), 5 to 15 February 2009.

The film was produced through a collaborative effort with five of his classmates and was the final work that the students submitted for graduation.

The film centres on a true incident in September 1993 when 12 men were arrested and charged with outrage of modesty during a police entrapment exercise at Tanjong Rhu, a secluded beach on the east coast of Singapore. The names and particulars of the 12 men were published in the national newspapers. The film is a fictionalised account of what happened to one of those arrested and explores the emotions and realities of those involved in the incident.

Tanjong Rhu will be screened in Panorama, the international arthouse programme of the festival. Boo was among The Puttnam School of Film’s first batch of graduates when he completed his studies in September 2007 and was named valedictorian of the year. He is currently writing his debut full-length feature script, “SANDCASTLE”, which he will also be directing.

His awards and achievements for other films include:
•    Best Film, Silver Screen Awards – 21st Singapore International Film Festival, 2008
•    Best Director, Silver Screen Awards – 21st Singapore International Film Festival, 2008
•    Special Jury Prize, Silver Screen Awards – 20th Singapore International Film Festival, 2007
