LASALLE College of the Arts Graphic Design student, Lim Si Ping (22) won the prestigious Best of Show Award from the Crowbar Awards 2009, an annual creative competition run by the Association of Accredited Adverting Agents Singapore (4As) aimed at highlighting the best emerging talent in the field of communications and design.
Initially started as a platform targeting the participation of local tertiary students, the competition was expanded in 2005 to accept entries worldwide. This year’s Crowbar awards attracted entries from as far as New Zealand, the U.K and the U.S.
The Best of Show award which comes with a cash prize of $1000 and the coveted Show Platinum Trophy, is handed out to the best of the 6 winners from the Best of Category awards comprising Advertising, Design, Photography, Interactive, Film and the Crowbar Challenge.
On top of the Platinum Trophy, she also received two other Best of Category awards, for Design and Interactive respectively.
Said Si Ping, “I could hardly believe it when they announced my name for the third time; it’s like experiencing the achievement of an impossible dream”.
Her entry, entitled ‘I M Perfect’, is a design-based exhibition on the human anatomy and its physical imperfections. Si Ping explained, “It is a collection of people’s insecurities based on how they look; it exemplifies today’s problem of people inclining towards aesthetic perfection as the ideal way to get by life easily”. The assignment also doubles up as her final year project.
Nur Hidayah, LASALLE’s Dean, Faculty of Design added that “This has been a great learning experience for her and has given her good exposure in understanding the creative process for design work. We are tremendously proud of her”.
