When: Tue 9 Feb  2010, 1pm
Where: The Singapore Airlines Theatre, Basement 1, LASALLE College of the Arts
Type: Concert

LASALLE Head of Music, Tim O’Dwyer leads his own group this week at the School of  Contemporary Music (SoCM) lunchtime concert. Recently returning from successful shows in Melbourne, the Tim O'Dwyer Trio will feature local jazz legend Tony Makarome on bass (temporarily replacing – SEA shows- regular bass player Clayton Thomas who lives in Berlin) and SoCM’s own Darren Moore on drums. This power trio brings many influences to the table but they are best known for their uncompromising and high-octane free jazz performances.

O'Dwyer has performed recently with UK saxophonist John Butcher and the Elision Ensemble at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK) in a homage to Anthony Braxton while Moore has just recorded the debut album of his new Singapore quintet GALAXY and is currently artistic director of the C.H.O.P.P.A and ‘Jazz Colonies’ performance series. Dr Tony Makarome is an associate professor at Yong Siew Toh conservatorium at NUS and brings to the group deep experience of jazz and contemporary classical music.

“The music took off with terrific energy…… You know the feeling: phwoof! This is great; I wonder if everyone else can feel it. The response showed that they surely could.
– John Clare (Sydney Morning Herald)

"......for those Melbourne jazz 'improvisers' who missed the gig at Uptown last night, you missed out on a wild night of free jazz by three of Australia's greatest x-pats. The Tim O'Dwyer Trio - inspiring, nuts and fun. YES JAZZ CAN BE FUN!!! even when it gets weird...after last night my expectations of what jazz improv should be were finally met!"
- Tania Bosak (Satisfied fan from previous shows)

The Lunchtime Concert Series is a fortnightly performance presented by School of Contemporary Music (SoCM), Faculty of Performing Arts.
