Using a comment from Audre Lorde as a starting point, this symposium aims to serve as a platform for participants to discuss their practice in terms of how challenges are made/positioned in relation to the historical frameworks of their media. To what extent have subversions, or negotiations pushed the limits/boundaries of their practice? How have personal visions helped in foregrounding differences that can become our strengths?

With a panel of invited artists from diverse backgrounds and experiences, we hope to gain an insight into the ways these artists conduct their investigations in the name of art making. The symposium will end with the candidates of the MA Fine Arts programme presenting their research processes and practice outcomes.
