Arts management education, the ongoing debate about the benefits of the arts and the “culture wars” take the spotlight in this INTERACTIONS talk. A brief history of the evolution of arts management in America and an overview of the arts audiences and trends in arts attendance in the last 30 years will underpin Prof Byrnes’ talk. He will then expound on the pervasive topic of funding and the impact the recession has had on arts organisations and artists in the US. The lecture will conclude with thoughts about future trends and key issues facing arts organisations and arts managers.
