About LASALLE
How did “LASALLE” come to be the name of the Institution?
The Institution was founded in 1984 by Brother Joseph McNally, a Brother of the De La Salle order. From its humble beginnings as a small arts centre at the St Patrick's School premises, the Institution expanded and in 1992 was re-named "LASALLE College of the Arts". In 1993, "SIA" was added to the Institution's name in recognition of Singapore Airlines' contribution of S$15 million towards the construction of two new buildings at the previous Mountbatten campus.
Is LASALLE a private institution?
LASALLE is a non-profit, private educational institution. The Institution currently operates autonomously with financial support from the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE). Singaporeans, Singaporae Permanent Residents and International students are eligible for subsidised fees with tuition grant from the MOE.
The Institution offers the widest range of programmes in practice-based arts - Design, Fine Arts, Media Arts, Film, Music, Dance Theatre and Arts Management - in Singapore from Diploma to Master's degree. PhD programmes are planned to commence in the near future.
As a result of a major capital contribution from the Singapore government, LASALLE successfully moved to a City Campus in 2006 which provides world-class teaching, learning and research facilities.
How is LASALLE different from other institutions that offer an education in the arts & design?
A fundamental difference is that LASALLE focuses on the contemporary arts, offering the most comprehensive range of arts education programmes in Singapore with a complete academic-creative path from Diploma to Master's degree. PhD programmes are planned to commence in the near future.
With a unique teaching philosophy that emphasises both theory and practice, students at LASALLE are exposed to a learning environment that includes being taught by faculty who as well as being experienced educators are practising professionals, working with invited international artists, designers and performers, and participating in a dynamic programme of cutting-edge exhibitions and performances. As the region's only integrated arts campus, students have the exceptional benefit of interdisciplinary interaction and a holistic approach to learning.

Must I have studied Art or Design at GCE ‘O’ level to enter the Diploma programme?
No, either subject is not a pre-requisite for entry. However, a credit at GCE ‘O’ level or equivalent will give you an edge over other applicants.
What qualifications will I get at the end of my study?
| Qualification Table | |
| Diploma | Duration = 3 years |
| Bachelor of Arts (Hons) | Duration = 3 years |
| Master’s Degree | Duration = 1.5 - 2 years (3 - 4 semesters) |
If I have started a similar course of study at another institution and decide to transfer to LASALLE, will I receive advanced standing when I enter LASALLE?
You may receive advanced standing or Accredited Prior Learning (APL) if the qualification you have is recognised by LASALLE. In some instances, students have enrolled directly into the second year of the diploma/degree programme.
What if I don’t meet the minimum entry requirements, am I automatically not eligible to apply?
We have provisions for special entry for which each application is considered on a case-by-case basis. Considerations include the standard of your portfolio, references and relevant work experience.
Our Fees
As LASALLE is a private institution, are fees much higher than that at the government institutions?
In late 1998, the Singapore government announced plans to upgrade LASALLE to play a central role in the development of creative and artistic manpower in Singapore. The upgrading plans included granting LASALLE with financial support from the Ministry of Education. Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and International students are eligible for subsidised fees for Diploma programmes under the Ministry of Education’s Tuition Grant Scheme.

Fee Protection Scheme (FPS)
1. Why does EduTrust maintain a need of FPS for ALL students at LASALLE (Degree, Master, and English Programme)?
As student fees form a substantial financial income of the PEI, the need to protect the funds is crucial to compensate students when the PEI faces any financial difficulties and is unable to continue to offer their courses. Under such circumstances, students can look forward to the refund of any unconsumed payments made.
2. How much does the student need to pay for FPS?
Under the fee insurance scheme, LASALLE will engage Lonpac Insurance Bhd (one of the Council for Private Education-appointed insurance companies) on behalf of LASALLE students to provide coverage to protect the students’ fees.
Students who are enrolled under Non-MOE Funded Programmes (Bachelor of Arts (Hons), Master of Arts, and English programmes) are required to pay a premium of 1.2% of the course fees paid per semester (FPS fee percentage is subject to the prevailing premiums on an annual basis as charged by the Insurers ).
For more information on the FPS premium to be paid together with the school fees, please download the table here.
3. How and where student need to pay their FPS?
Students can make payment at Finance Payment Counter located at Block E level 2. The operation hours is from Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Student may pay their FPS premiums by mode of payment: Cash, Cheque, NETS or Credit Cards. International students must bear the bank charges if they wish to do a telegraphic transfer.
A copy of the student insurance certificate will be emailed to each student by the insurance provider once the protection is effected.
