interior design

Programme Information

Duration: 3 Years

Award: Diploma in Interior Design

Interior design at LASALLE is defined as the act of creating engaging environments within and around existing spaces and structures. This entails the design and planning of a diverse array of spaces that span residential, leisure, retail, office, health care, hospitality, and institutional spaces.

The curriculum is based on a number of key design principles. Fundamental technical skills and vocational knowledge are developed through design investigations, explorations, experimentations and conceptual thinking methods. These are explored in a studio environment where traditional drafting and modelling techniques, plus the latest in computer-aided drawing and visualisation, are honed. Studies on historical and contemporary design further develop your understanding of design. The programme remains sensitive and relevant to the industry's needs through links with industry partners.

The programme is unique, as it seeks not only to develop your technical skills, but also to supplement that professional skill with a wider knowledge and understanding of the built environment and its link to industrial design and architecture. Its objective is to provide an environment for the training of competent individuals who demonstrate the following: a lateral understanding of design contexts, proficient technical skills and vocational knowledge, plus an ability to apply skills and knowledge creatively and proficiently in the wider context of the built environment.

The programme prides itself on being practical and yet unconventional in its approach to interior design within the Asian context, and being regionally and internationally relevant to what's current in the design industry. The studio-based environment mimics 'design ateliers', promoting the vibrant exchange of communication, information and ideas. These ateliers are facilitated by experienced professionals who possess a wealth of international experience and knowledge.

To prepare you for life after graduation, you are constantly exposed to the demands of the industry with continual engagement in local and international design competitions, live projects, and exhibitions.

Assessments: Assessment is an integral part of the learning process, and will be formative and diagnostic as well as summative and evaluative, providing feedback to students wherever appropriate. Read more about assessments here.
